My Name Story
I was over at Amylia's blog yesterday and read her awesome story of how she changed her name in the midst of a spiritual journey. I enjoy reading her blog because she has a unique tilt on things, a sensitivity to simple beauty that I think a lot of people in this world are too busy and miss.
My name story isn't quite as exciting and interesting, but cool none the less. For everyone over the age of 35... you can probably already guess where my name came from. Yup, you guessed it. The Association's 1967 hit, "Windy". Now, if you live under a rock and have never heard the lyrics to this song, go culture yourself before reading on. People have speculated for years about what this song is REALLY about. Here's some fun conspiracy theories. My favorite is that Windy was actually a man. Ugh. I'm so glad I was an 80's child. I'd like to think it's NOT about a prostitute? Or a peeping tom? But a nice gal who smiles innocently at everyone she sees and reaches into her pocket to give them sun-shiny rainbows to make people happy. (Yeah, right)
Now what DOES make my naming kinda cool is the fact that my Dad was a 60's drummer. My friends get a kick when he starts to rattle on about all the people he played and toured with when he was a young teen playing in some pot smoking satanic band called, "The Magic Circle".... they played in the shape of a pentagram. I've heard him drop names like The Who, The Yardbirds, and Hendrix. He gave me a Hendrix CD last year and sho' nuff there was his picture inside the jacket with his purple croc boots on, Jimi in front of him, about to ram a guitar through an amp. Apparently he got to fill in for the regular drummer, Mitch Mitchell, when he was too strung out to play a set.
Now you'll all be happy to know Dad is one of the few musicians who survived the 60's and then married my Mom who has a more Cleaver-ish background. After some stints with a traveling zoo and a few sessions of shock therapy we're happy to report that he's close to normal. (love ya Dad) My Mom roped in his wild side just a bit and gave him two beaut-ee-ful daughters. By his early twenties he was out of the music scene completely and now the craziest venue he gets to is the modern worship service at their local church. =)
So there it is. Told ya I was a Diva. What's YOUR name story?

Random Funness
My hubby found this image while doing a google search on who knows what. He used it on our family .mac site for the top of a blog entry promoting our JDRF walk. I thought it was funny. His caption under it said, "If you’re wondering Justin is in the blue for fear someone will recognize him and Windy is ready to punch Diabetes in the face!"

JDRF Walk To Cure Diabetes
Yippee!! I'm doing a diabetes walk! I'm very excited! Info is below:
Hello friends, family, and fellow D-bloggers, (original content edited for this website)
We are writing you today to let you know we will be participating in our local JDRF Walk To Cure Diabetes Event this year. As most of you know, I (Windy) have been battling Type 1 Diabetes for almost 20 years now. I've been hospitalized numerous times, taken thousands of insulin shots and endured to date about 29,200 finger pricks to test my blood sugar ( 7,300 days x 4 tests a day). Over the past couple years I've begun to see the very first signs of the long term complications I knew would someday come. I made a commitment at the beginning of 2008 to make this the year that I joined the millions of people who have been touched by this disease in finding a cure. I began by starting this personal blog called The Diabetic Domestic Diva where I journal about new technologies and daily struggles and triumphs of my diabetes and provide links to several other diabetic blogs and informative websites. Next, I joined a photography project that a bunch of diabetics from around the world participate in called Diabetes365 where we document living life with diabetes, one day at a time. Now, our family (YUP, even Gabe and Zoe) have committed to participate in a walk to help benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and you can help!
If you can make a donation On The JDRF Secured Website to help us reach our team goal by clicking HERE. All donations are tax deductible.
If you are unable to donate financially yourself we COMPLETELY understand. However, if you know of anyone who might like to support this cause or has been touched personally with diabetes, we would be grateful if you could forward this information to them!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and help us fight one of the fast growing diseases in the United States. If you decide to donate (even $1) please let me know so we can send out a thank you!!
Our Deepest Love and Gratitude-
Windy, Justin, Gabriel and Zoe

Flat Tummy... shaaa.
I re-inserted a new CGMS sensor last night. I got out my quickstart guide because if I screw up it's an $80 oopsie. I noticed that on the guide it said, "Find a flat part of your stomach and attach the adhesive."
Flat part of my stomach? BWAHAHA!! I'd like to find that too folks!!!

CGMS... Round 3
I took off my CGMS sensor last night. I got almost 14 days out of that one. I used an IV 3000 clear sticky thing over it and it helped the adhesive stay on and in place so well! I'm sniffing around for some on ebay because they are pretty expensive. I also have a couple nurse friends who are trying to round some up for me. =)
I haven't put a new one on yet. I'm taking a break for a couple days. I have 3 left and don't yet know if my insurance is going to pull through so I'm trying to stretch things out. I miss being able to look down and see if my sugars are on the rise or on the fall. The trends are one of the best things for me about it. It's not just ONE reading from a finger stick, it's the ability to see if your bolus has kicked in or if you need more insulin to cover what you've eaten, etc. Not a perfect technology, but helpful still.
I'll probably put a new one in tomorrow.
I'm ready for the Hollywood Rounds of American Idol to start. I can't take anymore delusional people who think they can be rock stars.
